British GT: BMW promoted to GT3 pole

21 October 2023

The Beechdean Aston Martin partnership of Andrew Howard and Ross Gunn have lost pole position for the Intelligent Money British GT Championship #DoningtonDecider today.

After taking what had looked to be a sensational pole position - their combined time of 3m03.957 was 1.512s clear of second place - the #97 duo were since demoted to tenth after failing to set two or more timed laps in Q1.

Championship contenders Darren Leung and Dan Harper in the #91 Century Motorsport BMW will now start on pole. Their title rival, James Cottingham in the #4 2 Seas Motorsport Mercedes-AMG, will start fourth with teammate Philip Ellis. Harper and Leung need to overturn a gap of 13 points to Cottingham during the race to take the crown for themselves.

Lining up second will be reigning champion Ian Loggie and his teammate Jules Gounon in the #1 2 Seas Motorsport Mercedes-AMG. In third will be Fox Motorsport’s #25 Lamborghini driven by 74-year-old John Seale and Grand Tour test driver Abbie Eaton who were also able to capitalise with the wet tyre in the first session.

Cottingham and Ellis will be fifth with Jonny Edgar and Miguel Ramos in fifth for the #88 Garage 59 McLaren 720s. Sandy Mitchell and Shaun Balfe’s #78 Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini is sixtg with the #77 Enduro Motorsport McLaren of Marcus Clutton and Morgan Tillbrook in seventh.

The #27 Paddock Motorsport McLaren of Marvin Kirchhofer and Mark Radcliffe is eighth with the Race Lab McLaren Iain Campbell and James Kell in ninth.

GT4 pole position went to Seb Hopkins and Josh Miller in the R Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT4, giving Aston Martin both pole positions.
