Convoy in the Park set to go large at Donington Park this weekend

06 August 2024

The ‘biggest’ event of the year is just days away from arriving at Donington Park, with Convoy in the Park set to burst into life on 10/11 August. The full on festival of all things truck racing and life on the road is back, and full of family fun, at one of the country’s largest truck shows of the year!

While the on track action, headlined by the British Truck Racing Championship and the return of the International Truck Prix, always takes centre stage, Convoy in the Park also features one of the widest ranges of off track entertainment all year, with a live action arena, live music, huge display areas and so much more.

The British Truck Racing Championship is literally the biggest championship in the UK, featuring a heavyweight pack of five-tonne, 1,000hp racing machines that rival sports cars for acceleration. Five races from these behemoths of motorsport will deliver a stunning spectacle around the Donington Park National circuit, as the best truck racing drivers in the UK do battle as they bid to knock eight-time champion Ryan Smith off his perch!

If that wasn’t enough, the International Truck Prix also returns, which this year celebrates the 40th anniversary of the first truck race in the UK, held at Donington Park in 1984. Two epic contests will feature on each day and will feature Isle of Man TT legend John McGuiness, who will return to truck racing having shown strong form in the event last year. As part of the anniversary celebrations, the Donington Truck Racing 40th Anniversary Cup will be presented to the leading driver across the event.

Across the British Truck Racing Championship contests and the International Truck Prix events, a mammoth nine heavyweight races will take place across the event, including five on Sunday.

The full support race package includes further action from the Pickup Truck Racing Championship, sports cars from the British Endurance Championship, and tin tops from the MINI Challenge Clubsport, MG Owners Club Championship and the Britcar Trophy. On track action starts just after 9am on both days, and extends through to the early evening on both days.

Of course there’s so much more than the racing, with a jam packed schedule of activities off track for all the family to enjoy. The Live Action Arena, with viewing from Redgate corner, will feature truck drifting and a caravan smash, demonstrations from British and World Rallycross machinery, plus more cars from the World Rally Championship.

The live music stage on the infield will get the party whipped up on both days, while manufacturer displays and a Show Truck village will showcase hundreds of giant machines around the venue.

A kids zone will keep the little ones entertained throughout the event, while circus skills workshops, remote control trucks and mini movie trucks will also be in operation. Donington Park will even be sent back to Jurassic times with roaming dinosaurs and additional characters!

The Super Heroes Wheel Show will be a unique feature, plus there’s a paid funfair and a big selection of trade stalls to browse.

For those wanting to get behind the wheel themselves, truck driving experiences will be available at the Heritage Loop section of the venue, with passenger rides also available, while those wanting a bit more octane can jump into the spectacular Red Dragon Monster Truck!

Tickets for Convoy in the Park are still available in advance, priced at £29 per day for adults, £17 for teenagers aged 13-15 and free entry all weekend for children under-13. For more information and to book, click here.
