British GT Pre-Qualifying: Optimum Motorsport's McLaren moves to the top at Donington Park

07 September 2024

Mark Radcliffe and Tom Gamble's McLaren 720S GT3 Evo set the pace at the top of the British GT Championship times during Pre-Qualifying at Donington Park this afternoon, with the Optiumum Motorsport machine setting the pace ahead of the split-Qualifying sessions later on.

Mark Radcliffe was behind the wheel of the McLaren which after showing promising pace in the opening practice session, moved to the top of the times with a 1m36.341s, before a crash for the Team ABBA Racing Mercedes-AMG brought out the red flag and a premature end to the session.

The Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2 of Rob and Ricky Collard finished just half a tenth back, with the championship leaders looking strong. The twin Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini of Alex Martin and Sandy Mitchell was third, while the Mercedes-AMG of Richard Neary and Sam Neary was in fourth before finding the barrier on the exit of Old Hairpin.

The Blackthorn Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 of Petrobelli and Jonny Adam finished fifth, with Petrobelli setting the fastest lap for the team. Ian Loggie and Phil Keen's Porsche 911 GT3 R was in sixth, with the top-ten completed by the 2 Seas Motorsport Mercedes-AMG, Shaun Balfe and Adam Smalley's McLaren, the Greystone GT Aston Martin and the BMW of John Ferguson and Max Hesse.
