Sam Shrimpton, who won the PalmerSport Ginetta Race Scholarship last December, will make his race debut during the opening event of the Ginetta GT Academy season at Donington Park this weekend (5/6 April).
Sam was selected as the overall winner following a very close final shootout at Bedford Autodrome during the off-season, fending off three other finalists, each of whom demonstrated a high level of capability behind the wheel. Such was the standard of the finalists, that the event format was actually altered during the day to ensure all four contenders progressed to a final shootout.
But it was Sam who edged out the rest to secure a place on this year’s grid, impressing Ginetta Head of Motorsport Mike Simpson and Chief PalmerSport Instructors Rob Jenkinson and Christian Vann. He’ll now take on a complete campaign at the wheel of his Ginetta, with this weekend’s event at Donington Park followed by visits to Silverstone, Oulton Park, Snetterton and Brands Hatch ahead of a return to the East Midlands.
Sam follows in the footsteps of 2024’s successful candidate James Nicholas to ensure a PalmerSport graduate will be represented on the Ginetta package for a second season in succession. His participation in a full-time campaign comes as part of a total prize estimated around £100,000.
