BMW’s reigning champion Toprak Razgatlioglu launched his 2025 WorldSBK title bid with a stunning treble victory at last weekend’s Portuguese rounds at the Algarve International Circuit.
Having registered just a single podium finish and a 13th at the season opener in Australia, the Turkish rider fought back in some style at the first European round of the season.
In all three races, Razgatlioglu and Ducati’s Australia treble winner Nicolò Bulega locked horns, with gripping battles for the lead in each contest, and the duo exchanging the position multiple times throughout the event. Razgatlioglu prevailed on all three occasions, but with winning margins of 0.067s, 0.055s and comparatively huge two tenths of a second!
Yamaha’s Andrea Locatelli completed the podium in race one, while Ducati’s Álvaro Bautista recovered from a first lap fall in the opening contest to register two podiums on Sunday.
Satellite Ducati rider Sam Lowes was the lead British contender with a sixth place finish in race two.
Despite having to settle for second across the weekend, Bulega still leads the standings, but Razgatlioglu has trimmed his margin considerably heading to the next rounds at Assen on 12/13 April.
Donington Park again hosts the only UK round on 11-13 July, with tickets available at advance rates online. Additional savings are on offer for teenagers aged 13-15, and children under-13 go free all weekend. Limited campsite and grandstand tickets are also available.
